INVERTED AEROPRESS

INVERTED AEROPRESS

Aeropress

The Aeropress, is an industry classic at this point. Known for the clean profiles that it creates and its simple yet adaptable approach to brewing that is ideal for on-the-go users. Whether camping, on a flight, or just in your kitchen, the aeropress is a great way to enjoy a clean cup of filtered coffee. We prefer the inverted method, as we believe it creates a more robust and repeatable process.

Unpacking the Inverted Aeropress Brew Technique

Inverting the Aeropress transforms it into an immersion brewer, allowing coffee and water to steep before being pressed into your mug while also not letting any water escape before the desired time.

Procedure of the Aeropress Inverted Method

Retract the plunger almost entirely, flip the Aeropress upside down, and introduce coffee and water into the cylinder for brewing. Attach the filter and basket and let the coffee steep for the desired amount of time, in this case two and a half minutes. Next, flip the Aeropress upright on the mug, initiate the plunging process with forceful yet careful pushing force until all the coffee is out of the Aeropress.

Recommended Aeropress Coffee Proportions

For a rich cup, adhere to a water-to-coffee ratio of 15:1, equating to 15 grams of water per gram of coffee.

Preferred Aeropress Coffee Grind

Opt for a medium to fine grind resembling table salt. Note that a coarser grind facilitates an easier plunge, while a finer grind may present a more challenging process.

Aeropress Coffee Formulation

Water-to-Coffee Ratio: 15:1

Water: 275g

Coffee: 18g

Grind: Medium/Fine (table salt)

Steps for Crafting Inverted Aeropress Coffee

  1. Commence with an Upside Down Aeropress: Ensure the Aeropress is inverted, with the plunger extended to create a seal.
  2. Prepare the Filter Basket: Unscrew the filter basket, insert a filter, and rinse with hot water before setting aside.
  3. Add Ground Coffee: Introduce freshly ground coffee into the Aeropress.
  4. Initiate Timer - 0:00: Start the timer and pour 50g of just-off-boil water to degas freshly roasted coffee in the bloom phase.
  5. 0:45: Add 125g of water and stir.
  6. 1:30: Include the remaining 100g of water, screw on the filter basket with the filter.

2:30: Flip the Aeropress right side up onto your mug and steadily plunge for a flavorful cup of coffee.
